Double Beds 4ft 6in

In the UK a standard sized double bed measures 4ft 6in wide by 6ft 3in long (135cm x 190cm). It’s a great size for couples and solo snoozers alike.

There’s a wide range of double bed types to choose from on the market, but broadly speaking, the most popular types are bed frames, divan beds and ottoman beds. 

Bed frames are usually made out of wood or metal and have a traditional look to them, often standing on four legs and featuring slats to place your mattress on.

Divan beds offer storage space in the form of drawers, which are integrated into the base. The drawers are perfect for storing bedding, towels and small items such as books, toys and small clothing items. 

Ottoman beds offer even more storage space with the storage available taking up the entire footprint of the bed. The storage space is accessed via an easy to use mattress platform that simply lifts up and holds in place for you to access your belongings.

No, despite the name, a Queen bed is actually smaller than a double bed here in the UK. Queen beds measure approximately 4ft x 6ft 3in (120cm x 190cm) so are around six inches smaller than a double bed. Queen beds, also known as small double beds, are available in our collection here at Next Divan if that’s a more suitable size for your needs. 

There’s nothing worse than a fitted sheet that doesn’t quite fit the bed and is either too loose or too small. When it comes to fitted sheets for your double bed, we’d recommend sheets that measure around 135cm x 190cm x 30cm. However if you were using flat bed sheets instead with no elastication, we’d recommend sheets that measure 228cm x 254cm. 

When it comes to your chosen duvet for your double bed, it does really come down to personal preference. A ‘standard’ double bed duvet measures around 200cm x 200cm (79in x 79in) which will give you a slight overhang over each side. However some couples like to use bigger duvets so that one of them isn’t left out in the cold, so if that sounds familiar, we’d recommend going for a slightly larger duvet size. Just be conscious of how high off the ground your bed is to make sure the duvet doesn’t touch the floor.
