Inspired by Earth Day 2022? Here are our best tips to make sustainable changes

Earth Day 2022 has become increasingly popular year on year, especially after the pandemic when we had the time globally to become more eco-aware! This Earth Day 2022 has stormed the internet, with all major organisations getting on board through earth-conscious campaigns both online and in real life, to help people of the world learn about how to live more eco-friendly!

In this week's blog, we want to give our readers some more advice on how to be more aware in your day to day home life on how to take care of the Earth and make conscious changes for a sustainable life.

The History of Earth Day

The Modern Environmental Movement of 1970 was the beginning of our yearly Earth Day celebrations. This movement brought widespread attention to pollution and successfully pressured Congress to put measures in place to promote clear, pollution-less air and water, for the safety of the people and our earth.

The Environmental Movement is still so important today, with more and more people constantly getting on board to make changes to their way of life, to be more eco-friendly, and people with large platforms in the public eye working to gain the world's attention towards global warming, like Sir David Attenborough and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Small Choices Make Big Impacts

In our ever-changing world there is always a way to live more sustainably, we are able to become more conscious in every aspect of human life, from beauty to personal care, to food and lifestyle. In most mainstream supermarkets, there is an eco alternative to most everyday products. For example, daily necessities such as shampoo and conditioner have been swapped out with packaging-free bars and dairy products have been replaced with plant-based. A simple way you can make a change is by switching it up in the supermarket!

Did you know that greenhouse gasses produced by livestock amount to a total of 14.4%? Making a conscious effort to eat meat-free and dairy alternatives, such as Quorn, and plant-based dairy products helps to work alongside others who are making changes to prevent greenhouse gas levels from increasing.

Cleaning products are a huge contributor to landfill, with non-biodegradable plastics playing a huge part in most packaging types within the cleaning sector. We are currently loving Ecolover which is a fully sustainable cleaning brand here in the UK, covering washing up to laundry detergent, this brand truly has everything you need to shift over to a sustainable life!

Instead of purchasing that new pair of jeans, or a jacket brand new from highstreet stores, invest in pre-loved items from vintage stores, online marketplaces, charity stores and more to get the things you love for less and live more sustainably! According to the UN it takes 7.5 THOUSAND litres of water to create one single pair of denim jeans, do your part by purchasing pre-loved jeans and other wardrobe pieces to reduce waste and your carbon footprint.

We here at Next Divan, also make conscious decisions when creating our products, as part of our movement to become more eco-friendly. You can find eco-conscious mattresses in our extensive range such as the Silk 2500 Pocket Sprung Natural Filling Mattress which consciously contains natural woods, silks and polyesters which are created using eco-friendly, recycled plastics to reduce our use of single-use plastics and help you to sleep happy!
