Who are John Cotton?

John Cotton are a long established company who work alongside bed companies to produce some of the best quality products available on the market.

They were founded back in 1916, in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. With over 100 years of experience, John Cotton have brought forward multiple companies under their main brand:

  • Slumberdown

  • Snuggledown

  • NonWovens Division

  • John Cotton Europe

  • Tontine

Currently they have a strong workforce of over 1,000 employees and a set of company values we really adhere to at Next Divan. This is why we have partnered with John Cotton for over 5 years now and continue to maintain an excellent relationship with them.

They turn over £160 million a year which firmly places them amongst the top names in their industry.

Some of their production processes

Many of their bedding lines are made with the environment in mind. Having these practises in place is what really sets John Cotton apart from many manufacturers, no matter the

Their content packaging features 30% recycled materials on ALL their lines and then a further 50% and 100% recycled materials on select ranges. This is part of an initiative that aims to reduce the amount of natural resources they use as a business. Having removed a total of 600 tonnes worth of packaging compared to 2019, their progress is commendable..

Even back in 1916, John Cotton worked hard to recycle materials for their business. They were set up to recycle waste textiles, and then moved onto supplying mattress fillings and upholstery services.

Awards won by John Cotton

Their contributions to the manufacturing industry have not gone unnoticed. John Cotton have won many different awards for showcasing their expertise and commitment to delivering stellar production lines.

The most recognisable accreditation is the MBE awarded to the Chairman of the company, John Cotton. This was awarded back in 2014, and their chairman had this to say:

“I am immensely proud to receive this honour, but am equally proud that the John Cotton Group is, after nearly 100 years, continuing to grow and is still a major part of the local community.”

Fast forward to 2015 and the awards continued, as John Cotton won Asda’s Supplier of the Year award and they also won the National Bed Federation Bed Component Supplier of the Year in 2015 and also in 2018. Great achievements!

Mattresses have advanced massively since 1916! With many mattresses now being made with new technologies including hybrid materials and layers for the ultimate in comfort.

We will continue to work with John Cotton as they continue their pledge of creating environmentally friendly bedding products along with their partners, and our customers will continue to benefit from the ethical manufacturing procedures.
